The specialist for high-voltage air-core reactors expands capacities and creates space for innovation

Coil Innovation GmbH is continuing its 20-year success story with a comprehensive expansion of its headquarters in Eferding. The innovative specialist in the development and production of high-voltage devices in the field of energy technology is experiencing brimming order books, once again reaching its capacity limits. Therefore, on May 14, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the company’s largest expansion to date took place, in which an investment of over 30 million euros will take place.
The plans include a 650 m² office extension and a state-of-the-art production and testing hall with 4,500 m² of usable space. Long-standing partner and Upper Austrian general contractor Peneder, which has already implemented several construction projects for Coil Innovation since the company headquarters was built in 2004, was once again commissioned with the planning and construction. Completion is scheduled for spring 2026.
Expansion of capacities
Twenty years after the founding of Coil Innovation GmbH, the major expansion project in 2025 represents another important milestone in the company’s strategic development. The future of electrical power engineering is promising. Coil Innovation’s products are an integral part of the energy transition and the associated investments in the expansion of electrical power grids. With this capacity expansion, the company is optimally positioned to actively shape this transformation. The site expansion will create 30 additional office jobs and increase the production area by 60%. This creates valuable capacity and space for innovation. The current annual turnover of around €50 million is expected to increase to approximately €80 million as a result of the expansion.

(FH) Alexander Grisenti, Managing Director of Coil Holding GmbH and co-founder of Coil Innovation GmbH, explains: “The underpinning of our technological market leadership through new, innovative processes, the implementation of further important steps towards sustainability, and the increased demand for our products are the main drivers for the expansion decision. Reactors from Coil Innovation are key components for the expansion of modern power grids.”
Clear commitment to Austria as a location
Although almost 100% of Coil Innovation’s products are exported – a significant portion of them overseas – the shareholders have consciously decided to expand production capacity at the Eferding site. This underscores their commitment to regional value creation and strengthening Austria as a business location.
“Upper Austria is leading the way in implementing the energy transition. Energy technology companies from our state are an important driving force in this. Coil Innovation is a prime example: Through their innovations in the field of reactors, they are helping to build the energy grids of the future, worldwide. With their reactors, which ensure grid stability, Coil Innovation is making a significant contribution to a secure and stable power supply. This represents a significant step towards the concrete implementation of the energy transition. The massive expansion of production capacity at the headquarters in Eferding is also a clear endorsement of Upper Austria as a business location and the path we have taken in economic and energy policy” emphasized Markus Achleitner, State Councilor for Economic Affairs and Energy, at the groundbreaking ceremony.
With this expansion, Coil Innovation is also consolidating its long-term position as an attractive employer in the greater Eferding area. The company currently employs 150 people in Eferding – this number is expected to rise to around 200 in the near future. Thanks to its future-oriented approach and focus on sustainability, Coil Innovation offers secure and meaningful jobs in the field of energy technology.

Future-oriented industrial building
Employees are particularly excited about the new premises for the company expansion, which boast high-quality interiors and a modern spatial concept that promotes innovation and teamwork. The new ground floor of the office building will be the heart of the company headquarters and also serve as Coil Innovation’s architectural calling card. Reception, lounge area, canteen, and a meeting center create an inspiring atmosphere for exchange and collaboration between all employees and customers.
The new testing laboratory meets the highest quality standards. The hall for acoustic and energy loss measurements will be constructed largely metal-free, using wood construction and a special sound-absorbing lining. This is the only way to minimize measurement tolerances. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainability and the use of renewable energies: Heating and cooling will be provided by an air-source heat pump, while power will be supplied via photovoltaics, among other sources. “The hall is like a machine – and one that works really well” explains architect Harald Setka.
