Coil Innovation has been awarded major contracts by ABB Sweden for the supply of smoothing reactors for the HVDC projects “Fenno-Skan 2” and “Rio Madeira“. The latter project is – on the one hand – an HVDC overhead line (Bipole 1), used as a power highway rated for ±600 kV DC and 3150 MW to transmit electrical energy from new hydro power plants in the northwest of Brazil (close to Porto Velho) to the economic center in the southeast (Araraquara, close to São Paulo) over a distance of more than 2500 km. On the other hand directly in the northwest of Brazil an HVDC Back-to-Back station rated for 800 MW will be built, to transmit power to the surrounding asynchronous AC networks.
